The honest answer is that car detailing in Calgary ranges from about $150 for a basic interior clean to $2,499 for a multi-year ceramic coating. That is a wide spread, and the reason is simple: “detailing” covers everything from a thorough vacuum to machine paint correction that takes two full days.
This guide lays out what we actually charge at YYC Detail, what moves a price up or down, and how to work out which service you genuinely need. All prices are starting points for a standard sedan — larger vehicles and heavier condition cost more, and we will always quote before we start.
What actually changes the price
Four things drive almost every quote we give:
- Vehicle size. A three-row SUV has roughly twice the interior surface of a compact sedan. Expect $50 to $200 more depending on the service.
- Condition. A well-kept car that gets detailed twice a year is straightforward. One that has carried kids, dogs and job sites for four years is a different job.
- Pet hair. Embedded hair in carpet and upholstery is the single most labour-intensive thing we deal with. It is a common add-on.
- Calgary winters. Road salt, gravel dust and de-icer are hard on both paint and carpets. Salt staining in footwells often needs extraction rather than a standard shampoo.
Interior detailing — from $150
Interior work is priced by depth, not by time on the clock.
- From $150 — a thorough interior clean: full vacuum, surfaces wiped down, glass, door jambs.
- From $250 — adds steam cleaning and shampoo extraction of carpets and cloth seats, plus leather cleaning and conditioning where fitted.
- From $600 — a full interior restoration for vehicles that need it: deep extraction throughout, odour treatment, and detailed work on every trim piece and crevice.
Common add-ons run +$50 to +$200 — pet hair removal, odour treatment, and heavy stain work are the usual ones.
Exterior detailing — from $200
- From $200 — hand wash, wheels and tyres, decontamination and a protective sealant.
- From $350 — adds clay bar treatment and a light machine polish to remove wash marring and restore gloss.
- From $600 — multi-stage paint correction for cars with real swirling or oxidation.
Complete detailing packages — from $200
Most customers book interior and exterior together. Our combined packages start at $200 for the Essential detail, $350 for the Signature detail, and $600 for the most thorough package.
Ceramic coating — from $799
Ceramic coating is a different category. It is a semi-permanent protective layer, and the price reflects both the product and the paint preparation underneath it, which is where most of the labour goes.
| Package | Sedan | Truck / large SUV |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $799 | from $999 |
| Mid tier | $1,299 | from $1,499 |
| Pro Shield (with full paint correction) | $1,999 | from $2,499 |
The jump in price between tiers is mostly correction work. A coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in, so on an older vehicle the prep matters more than the coating itself.
Window tinting — from $200
- Front windows — $200
- Rear windows — $350
- Full vehicle — $500
All tinting uses premium 3M film and professional installation. Alberta law restricts how dark front side windows may be, and we will not install film that puts you offside — we will walk you through the legal limits before booking.
How to choose what you actually need
A rough guide from what we see day to day:
- Selling the car? A Signature detail from $350 is usually the best return on spend.
- Just bought new? Ceramic coating makes most sense on fresh paint, because correction costs are minimal.
- Family vehicle after a long winter? Interior restoration from $250, with extraction for salt staining.
- Keeping the car long term? Two details a year plus a coating usually costs less over five years than one major correction later.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a detail take?
An Essential detail is typically a half day. Signature is usually a full day. Paint correction and ceramic coating are multi-day jobs because each stage needs curing time.
Why is detailing more expensive than a car wash?
A car wash is a fifteen minute automated process. Detailing is hours of hand work with decontamination, extraction and machine polishing. They are different services that happen to both involve cleaning a car.
Do you charge more for trucks and SUVs?
Yes. There is more surface area and more glass. On ceramic coating the difference is set out above; on detailing it typically adds $50 to $200.
Is ceramic coating worth it in Calgary?
For most people who keep a vehicle more than three years, yes. Road salt and gravel are hard on clear coat, and a coating makes winter washing far easier. For a car you plan to sell within a year, a good sealant is the better value.
