“Interior detailing” covers everything from a thorough vacuum to a full restoration that takes most of a day. Since shops rarely define it, here is exactly what is included at each level, what it costs, and how to tell which one your vehicle actually needs.

Interior auto detailing in progress at YYC Detail Calgary
Interior detailing is measured by how deep the cleaning goes, not how long it takes.

The three levels, and what each includes

Essential Interior — from $150

A proper clean rather than a deep restoration. Includes:

Right for a car that gets detailed regularly and just needs resetting.

Signature Interior — from $250

Everything above, plus the deep-cleaning steps that actually remove contamination rather than moving it around:

This is the level most Calgary vehicles need after winter, because it is the first tier that removes salt from carpet backing rather than just lifting loose grit off the top.

Platinum Interior — from $600

A full restoration for vehicles that have been genuinely lived in:

Vacuuming versus extraction — the difference that matters

This is the single most misunderstood thing about interior work. A vacuum lifts loose debris from the surface of carpet fibres. It does nothing about what has soaked into the backing.

Calgary road salt dissolves in melted snow, soaks down through the carpet, and dries as crystals in the underlay. Vacuuming cannot reach it. Every time the carpet gets damp again those crystals reactivate, which is why salt-stained footwells reappear a week after a cheap clean.

Extraction injects cleaning solution into the carpet and pulls it back out along with the dissolved contamination. It is the only method that genuinely removes salt, and it is the reason the Signature tier exists.

Common add-ons

Add-onPriceWhen you need it
Pet hair removal+$100–$150Hair woven into carpet and upholstery — the most labour-intensive thing we do
Small SUV / truck+$50More surface area than a sedan
7-seater / van+$100Third row and significantly more carpet

How long it takes

An Essential interior is a couple of hours. Signature is typically a half to full day, because extraction needs drying time. Platinum runs a full day or more. Anyone promising a deep interior clean in forty minutes is vacuuming.

How often should you do it?

For most Calgary drivers, twice a year works: once in spring to pull winter salt out of the carpets, and once in autumn before the salt starts again. Vehicles carrying kids, dogs or work gear benefit from more.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in interior detailing?

At minimum a full vacuum, all hard surfaces cleaned, interior glass and door jambs. Deeper tiers add steam cleaning, shampoo extraction of carpets and upholstery, and leather conditioning.

How much does interior detailing cost in Calgary?

From $150 for an Essential interior, $250 for Signature with extraction, and $600 for a full Platinum restoration. Vehicle size and condition affect the final quote.

Can you remove winter salt stains?

Yes — but it needs extraction, not vacuuming. Salt soaks into the carpet backing, so it has to be dissolved and pulled out. That is the Signature tier from $250.

Do you remove pet hair?

Yes. It is an add-on at $100–$150 depending on vehicle size and how embedded the hair is, because it is genuinely time-consuming work.

How long does the interior take to dry?

After extraction, several hours. We factor drying into the booking so you are not collecting a damp car.
